What 120,000+ store visits tell us about the grocery shelf.
Since 2018, reps using AuditPro have checked more than 6.5 million products across more than 4,000 stores. At a typical visit, 26% of the products they track aren’t on the shelf. Here is what they find, and how long it takes to fix.
What a visit finds
Each visit flags about 17 issues on average: 6 out-of-stocks and 11 voids. Stores are visited about every 33 days (median).
How fast gaps get fixed
Most out-of-stocks are back within three months. Voids don’t: half are still open after 90 days, and once a void has been there a while, 80% are still void at the next visit. Voids need someone to follow up with the store or the chain.
| Days after the gap is found | Out-of-stocks back on shelf | New voids fixed |
|---|---|---|
| 45 | 56% | 34% |
| 90 | 75% | 50% |
| 180 | – | 63% |
What a visit takes
The median visit takes about 26 minutes, and half take 11 to 40 minutes. Reps check a median of 45 to 52 products per visit, about 30 seconds per product.
How we measured
- Source: AuditPro store visit data, 2018 to October 2026. Individual customers, brands and chains are not identified.
- Product check: one product checked at one visit.
- Not on the shelf: marked out of stock or void at that visit.
- Gap: a product in stock at the last visit and missing at this one. It counts as fixed when a later visit finds it in stock.
- Typical: medians, except where the text says average.
